Pastor of Discipleship Ministries - Bay Presbyterian Church

September 16, 2019

Bay Presbyterian Church owns a compelling three pronged vision as a community faithful to the Great Commission:

Centered on Christ, Shaped in Community, Sent into the World

The church seeks an experienced minister with a shepherd’s heart who is eager to help this church be shaped in community, primarily through impactful small group community. As a participant on the church’s senior staff team, this position will have profound influence on setting the strategic direction for discipleship of community from cradle to grave. The Pastor of Discipleship Ministries will serve as the second chair leader of Bay Presbyterian Church, which involves supervising other key discipleship and community leaders on the BPC staff team and preaching regularly.

The Church

CENTERED ON CHRIST

SHAPED IN COMMUNITY

SENT INTO THE WORLD

Bay Presbyterian Church is a community of 1700 members that faithfully calls and equips people to follow Jesus fully. They focus on loving God, loving others, and making disciples. True to its founding as a Sunday School for children over a century ago, BPC places a special value on children, marriages and families. BPC is seeking to become less a church with small groups and more of a church of small groups.

The church participates in various local ministries that invite membership to participate in evangelism efforts and engage with the most pressing needs in the greater Cleveland area. They actively partner with individuals and organizations engaged in global mission.

It is a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) denomination with a $3.2 million operating budget, an urban-based family ministry center and an onsite preschool. On average 240 students attend Sunday children's and youth programs.

The Community

Clevelanders love their city and will tell you with a genuine smile, “Cleveland is a world-class city without the world-class ego.” Located on the lovely shores of Lake Erie, Northeast Ohio offers its residents everything from world-class cultural institutions, world-renowned healthcare and even a world-championship sports team.

Cleveland, with population just under 400,000 is the center of the Northeastern Ohio region of over two million residents, is experiencing a rebirth of sorts as millennials and empty-nesters are making their home in the downtown core in record numbers. Downtown Cleveland is abuzz with art galleries, community festivals, restaurants, breweries, the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame and much more. Despite this rebirth, Cleveland and Northeastern Ohio continues to be remarkably affordable for families to live in and thrive.

Bay Presbyterian serves the west shore of Cleveland. The Westshore continues to grow in both population and affluence, encompassing roughly 165,000 residents. Bay Village is among the most established communities BPC serves and contains the church building. This community of 15,600 invites families to put down roots to enjoy the schools, parks and lake shore unique to Bay Village.
