Senior Pastor - Evangelical Community Church

April 8, 2019

Evangelical Community Church, located in Stamford, Connecticut, celebrated their 100th Anniversary in 2004. With twenty-six charter members rooted in the Swedish Reformed tradition, the congregation quickly became a significant part of downtown Stamford with their first official structure on Grove Street. Eventually, they relocated to their current location and dedicated their new church building in 1971.

ECC is a non-denominational, Evangelical, church with a very diverse congregation that spans generations and ethnicities. The church is seeking God’s will for their next Pastor. With a rich legacy of leadership and ministry, they are eager to expand their impact in the community. They are seeking a pastor who will cast vision, establish strategy, and implement ministry initiatives that result in spiritual and numerical growth.

The Church

The purpose of ECC is to worship and glorify God by evangelizing the lost and making disciples.

ECC is an extraordinarily warm and inviting congregation that benefits from its central location between North Stamford and Downtown Stamford. The beautiful church property includes a spacious sanctuary, numerous classrooms, and a large multipurpose fellowship hall with kitchen. The congregation is debt-free, fiscally sound, and owns a parsonage a short distance from the church.

ECC is governed by the Pastor, Board of Elders, and the Deacon Board. In 2015, after 22 years, their previous pastor, Cliff Lee, retired. For a period of three years, the pastor of the Spanish-speaking congregation who meets at ECC served as a part-time pastor but has since returned his primary focus on the Spanish congregation. Pastor Juan continues to preach often at ECC along with other guest speakers.

ECC’s worship service is vibrant and benefits from the leadership of a gifted young woman. It is a blend of modern and contemporary with hymns and choruses. The worship team reflects the diversity of the congregation both in age and ethnicity.

The Community

Stamford is Connecticut’s third largest city with a population of over 129,000. Stamford has an impressive number of corporate headquarters, three of which are 2018 Fortune 500 companies, and eight are Fortune 1000. Stamford is a city rich in cultural diversity that features a rapidly growing tech startup community, a strong healthcare system, top-tier schools, an unemployment rate well below the federal and state level, and residential options for all ages and income levels. Located on Long Island Sound, Stamford is often called the "Gateway to Connecticut" given it's proximity to New York City with Metro North express trains to Grand Central in 48 minutes.

For the past several years, Stamford has consistently appeared in Livability's “Top 100 Best Places to Live.” One reason for this is that Stamford is composed of distinct residential neighborhoods that define the city’s character and offer a diverse mix of housing choices. From single-family residences on large wooded lots in North Stamford, to multifamily developments on the West Side, to beautiful apartments overlooking the Long Island Sound in Harbor Point.

In a city as spirited, lively, and diverse as Stamford, there is always something to do. Whether you’re walking the 19 miles of shoreline or hiking the scenic trails of North Stamford, you’ll quickly find that there is never a dull moment in this city. With over 40 recreational sites, including public parks, beaches, golf courses, sports field complexes, and more, Stamford has the ample space and resources necessary for relaxation, entertainment, and recreation.
